Kabak Tatlisi (Pumpkin Dessert)

A traditional Turkish dessert made from pumpkin. It is a simple dish that showcases the flavor and sweetness of the pumpkin. The dessert is garnished with chopped walnuts, tahini, and fresh cream.


Ingredients

  • 1 kg pumpkin

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • vanilla

  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

  • 1/4 cup tahini

  • 1/3 cup fresh cream


Method

  • Peel, core, and slice the pumpkins into small cubes.

  • In a pot, add the pumpkin and sugar. Cover and set aside for 2-4 hours.

  • Cook over medium heat for 30-50 minutes or until it softens.

  • Remove the cooked pumpkins and allow the syrup to boil until thickened.

  • Add in the vanilla.

  • Place the pumpkins back into the pot and cook until caramelized.

  • Serve the pumpkins with the syrup, chopped walnuts, tahini, and fresh cream.
