Greek Orange Cake


Ingredients

Cake

  • 30 g butter

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 1 egg, separated

  • vanilla

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • 1/3 cup fine semolina

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/3 cup milk

Syrup

  • 1/2 cup orange juice

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • orange peel


Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F. Line a 9 in loaf pan with baking paper.

  • In a saucepan, boil the orange juice, sugar, and orange peel until the sugar dissolves. Allow to cool.

  • Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Add the egg yolk and vanilla.

  • Fold in the flour, semolina, baking powder, and milk.

  • Whisk the egg white in a separate bowl until stiff. Fold it in.

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes.

  • Pour the cooled syrup on the cake.
